Shiatsu
International Shiatsu School (ISS Kiental)
Shiatsu is a natural healing method, a modern form of therapeutic, energetic bodywork, which has its origins in Japan. The theoretical principles correspond largely to those of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Literally translated, Shiatsu means “finger pressure” – but the treatment encompasses much more: in the hands of well-trained therapists, it offers the possibility of focused work with ailments. The aim is to balance energetic patterns, to release blockages and to strengthen the self-healing and developmental powers of the individual. Based on this understanding, Shiatsu is an effective therapy for a variety of physical and mental ailments and life crises. As a communication system in the body, the energy channels or meridians play an important role. Through them it is possible to reach areas of the body (e.g. also organs) that are not accessible to direct contact. If the energy, the Ki, cannot flow freely in the body and in the meridians, congestion or low-energy areas develop, which can lead to physical symptoms.
In Europe, therapeutic Shiatsu has developed over the past decades and is an effective form of treatment for a variety of ailments and diseases. In a 1997 report of the EU Commission on complementary medicine procedures, Shiatsu is mentioned by name as one of 8 methods. In 2015 Shiatsu was recognized in Switzerland as a complementary therapy method and is therefore a professional training recognized by the Swiss government, also as a first profession. Today it is also used in Europe in prevention, education, in various institutions such as rehabilitation or in hospices and in the wellness sector. Shiatsu is an ideal remedy against stress, exhaustion and tension. In the security and calmness of the treatment, the clients find the possibility to feel themselves again, to arrive at themselves and to gather new strength. In this way Shiatsu can maintain health and promote its restoration. It mobilizes the vital forces and contributes to the joy of life.
The Shiatsu course at Kientalerhof has been accredited by the OdA KT (Organisation der Arbeitswelt Komplementärtherapie) since 1 May 2016 and fulfils the requirements and quality standards for the Federal Certificate in Complementary Therapy.
