In this final training module to become an Esalen Massage Practitioner, we draw on the wealth of knowledge we have acquired so far, supported by the safe and secure space of the group field. We practise connecting our intuition, creativity and knowledge with our hearts – and our hearts with our hands. We explore the transition from feeling to doing, so that each individual massage can develop into a special art form with its own signature. We will learn about the concept of unwinding and how such processes can be integrated into a massage as an expression of self-regulation.
An important focus of this course will be the treatment of special population groups such as elderly people, pain patients and pregnant women, as well as the limitations and contraindications. As a valuable tool, we will learn massage in the lateral position. Detailed techniques for different areas of the body will complement the repertoire.
Exercises to train presence allow students to remain mindful and connected with the client before, during and after the massage, without losing themselves in the process. We learn to perform massages energetically, clearly and comprehensively within a defined time limit in order to prepare ourselves for our practical work. Part of this block will deal with the legal situation regarding opening and running a massage practice and the steps that lead to successful professional practice and practice establishment.
All of this will continue to be accompanied by meditation, yoga, movement practice and continuum, which will facilitate contact with our own energy and the flow from movement to stillness.
