What is Nonviolent Communication?
Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a practice of inner clarity and mutual understanding. It empowers individuals to clearly express their mindset, perceptions, feelings, needs, and requests while remaining empathetically present with others.
Developed in the 1960s by American psychologist Marshall B. Rosenberg, this approach was born from his deep drive to understand why people hurt each other despite good intentions, and how language can be used to bridge those gaps.
At ist heart, NVC focuses on building a quality connection where individuals honor their own needs while recognizing the humanity in others, even during deep disagreements. This practice is universally applicable whenever people with different perspectives interact — including in relationships, families, the workplace, and, perhaps most importantly, your relationship with yourself.
