Esalen® Massage Introductory Course
Reconnect with your body as a source of wisdom, healing, and personal growth. In this immersive two day introductory course, you’ll learn the foundational techniques of Esalen® Massage — a flowing, mindful approach to touch that nourishes body, mind, and spirit.Through long, integrating strokes combined with precise work on muscles, fascia, and joints, Esalen Massage invites a deep sense of wholeness and embodied presence. You’ll both give and receive massage, experiencing how supportive touch can open space for relaxation, emotional release, and inner alignment.
Those who wish to continue can move directly into Module 2, which begins the very next day.
What to Expect

Course Objectives
By the end of this introductory training, participants will:- Learn the signature long, flowing strokes that define Esalen Massage
- Be able to give a complete, full body massage in both prone (face down) and supine (face up) positions
- Experience and cultivate the healing quality of touch that is at the heart of every Esalen Massage
Who This Course Is For
This workshop is designed for:- Individuals and couples wanting to deepen intimacy, trust, and connection through touch
- People interested in Esalen Massage training and exploring whether a longer certification path is right for them
- Therapists and students of the healing arts — including massage, bodywork, yoga, somatic practices, and psychotherapy — who want to enrich their work with an embodied, heart centered approach to touch
Whether you are new to massage or already experienced in bodywork, you are welcome. Beginners receive a solid, accessible introduction; seasoned practitioners gain fresh inspiration and a deeper understanding of what makes Esalen Massage unique.
Prerequisites
- A genuine enjoyment of touch and movement
- Openness to learning through your own body and experience
No previous massage training or special knowledge is required.

Course Instructor
Perry HOLLOMAN
has been working at the Esalen® Institute, California since 1979. He is an instructor in Esalen® Massage and founder of the Deep Bodywork® and Somatic Integration® methods. Perry is currently developing the Esalen® Massage Teacher Training and Integrative Gestalt Practice Education at Esalen® Institute.
