When we start studying Shiatsu, we have no idea of the sensory journey it will entail. We generally think that Shiatsu is about touching the physical body for beneficial purposes.

The first breakthrough is to realize that we are not only touching this one but also other 'subtler' dimensions of our receiver. On the other hand, the Far Eastern traditional models of reading man are 'holistic' so they suggest this possibility.

Furthermore, after a certain period of practice, we begin to experience perceptions that, translated into words, include the use of at least two senses. Often, indeed, the experiences are multisensory.
Multisensoriality requires the brain to integrate information from multiple senses, enhancing the overall understanding of an experience. For example, sight and touch can work synergistically to provide a more complete perception of an object.
Exploring perception in a multi-sensory way promotes a truly holistic approach to our perceptual system. Instead of reducing human experience to individual senses, the complexity of sensory and cognitive interactions is recognized. Adopting a multisensory approach can lead to a richer and more complete experience, enhancing our ability to understand and interact with the world around us.
During this workshop Patrizia intends to address, both from a theoretical and practical point of view, issues such as:

  • What to feel when doing Shiatsu? The perception of Ki as “vital breath”, differentiated in the specific resources necessary for life, will be emphasized
  • Where to feel? The Meridian, Keiraku in the Japanese tradition, will be presented, exploring its specific properties that make it a privileged place for perception
  • How to feel? It is very interesting to realize how perception depends on the technique used. Different ways of leaning will be presented and compared, focusing on their peculiar characteristics and specific scopes of use
  • How to use what you feel? With what objectives? With what effectiveness? Undoubtedly exploring this question will lead us to a better understanding of the role we want to play on the futon

Patrizia is very keen to enable each participant to become increasingly aware of themselves and their resources, so that the Shiatsu journey is a Do, a path of spiritual evolution.

Patrizia STEFANINI

graduated with honors in Physics (1982) and specialized in Medical Physics (1985). Simultaneously, she began studying Yoga, Aikido and Shiatsu. She first completed a Shiatsu training course in Italy, then she has chosen to continue her studies first with Wataru Ohashi and later, for almost two decades, with Pauline Sasaki. In more recent years, she has used her skills from her studies in Physics, researching theories and experimental data to support the model of man that underlies Shiatsu and, more generally, Oriental Medicine. She has co-authored three fundamental texts on Shiatsu and Oriental medicine, and dozens of articles on the same subjects, seen through the lens of modern Western science. Original aspects of her Shiatsu approach concern the reading of man in terms of a quantum macro system.
