Butoh unfolds where anatomy meets imagination and perception becomes poetry.
From Monday to Thursday we move between studio and landscape. The Kiental valley becomes a partner: a body of moss, water, stone, wind, and light. Through dancing, listening, touching, and lingering, we allow ourselves to be moved by its textures and discover the subtle threshold between inner and outer worlds. Our practice is inspired by Tatsumi Hijikata, the founder of Butoh, who developed dance through the experience of textures, materiality, and embodied imagination. Beginning with daily physical training, we cultivate the body as a place of perception, transformation, and poetic attention.
The workshop unfolds as a shared artistic laboratory. We build strength (of imagination), mobility, and presence while engaging in sensorial research and embodied creative practice. Movement becomes a way of relating—to ourselves, to one another, and to the living landscape. From this dialogue emerge performative situations where dance, touch, sound, and environment begin to intertwine.
On the final day we gather these explorations into a collective Sensorial Theatre experience in nature. Rather than a conventional performance, it is an immersive composition for all the senses—an invitation to encounter the landscape through a different mode of attention.
The Workshop includes
- Physical conditioning, strength, and mobility training
- Butoh practice
- Sensorial research and perception training
- Embodied creative processes
- Creation of a collective site-specific Sensorial Theatre experience
Requirement
No previous experience is required. The workshop welcomes anyone curious to explore movement as a practice of listening, relating, and artistic inquiry. Perhaps this shared exploration nourishes something wild within us. Perhaps also in the moss, the water, the rocks, and the wind.Note
