Diptesh Bhattacharya

is a sarod virtuoso who has won the hearts of audiences around the world with his unique sound quality and his ‘khayal aang baaj’ (playing like singing), both on stage and through his compositions for film and theatre. He received classical vocal training from the age of 3, and at the age of ten he fell in love with the sarod and began his training with Pt. Alok Lahiri. After earning the coveted degree of Sangeet Pravakar, Diptesh successfully completed a music course at the State Music Academy, Govt. of West Bengal, and received intensive taleem (training) from Pandit Kushal Das - one of the greatest sitar maestros of the Seni-Maihar Gharana of that era. Diptesh also received taleem (training) from Pandit Anindya Banerjee, the world-renowned sarod maestro and one of the oldest disciples of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan sahib, as well as from the world-renowned sitar maestro, the late Pandit Subroto Roy Chowdhury. He is currently researching under the guidance of the doyen of the Lucknow-Shahjahanpur Gharana, Ustad Irfan Muhammad Khan.
